Evaluation 7(Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you think you have learnt in the progression from it to the product?)

As we came to the completion of constructing our begining to a thriller scene, we allowed ourselves to look back at the first ever filming we did, which was the preliminary task. From looking back at this we see that our thriller is more well constructed; by this i mean the use of the camera in our thriller is more enhanced because of the different shots and camera angles we used, also the editing was done more sufficiently, which added effectiveness to our piece. As we looked back at our preliminary task we straight away saw that it was very unprofessional, especially the acting and the editing of the film.

For our preliminary task there wasn't much thoughts and ideas that had gone into it, we basically recorded and then pause to quickly make up what ever will happen next. This made the whole thing look very disorganised. The image quality seemed very poor and the camera wasn't entirely still. Also, titles were not used for example the characters that are in the film and who produce it.

For our thriller we used many different shots and camera angles to have our piece way more interesting than our preliminary task was. All of this allowed our piece to create tension and suspense for the audience and also allow them to keep in interest in our film so that they will watch on. Dissolves were used ion our thriller to show that time has passed.

For the preliminary task there was no music that would make the piece more interesting and more lively. As this factor isn't included it would be more unlikely for an audience to watch on. As for our actual thriller scene we added to music which allows the audience to have more of a feeling to what is happening in the scene.

Evaluation 6 (what have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this film?)

Mini DV camcorder

The mini DV camcorder was used to film our preliminary task, interviews and our thiller. I have allowed myself to become highly familier with this camera and able to start recording and pause at the correct moment that is needed.

Tripod
The tripod was used to allow the camera to be stabled and able to film with out any shaking of the camera. After a while of using this equiptment i have become more accurate in using it, i have learned how to pan a shot, move the camera up and down on the fix axis and also to tilt the camera up and down.

Digital camera

The digital camera had been used in order for me to take pictures of my storyboard to allow me to create a video animation. Again when using this equipment i learned how to put the camera in focus to allow the pictures taken come out to be clear.

The apple mac was used to apply all our video recording and used to edit it. At first it was kind of difficult to use this piece of equipment but as time passed we became familier with it and was able to use it effectively and efficiently.

Evaluation 5(How did you attract/ address your audience?)

Throughout our thriller we designed it to hold the audience attention, by bringing forth suspense and tension instantly so it could them keep watching to see what happens later.

We discovered our target audience by interviewing in person and producing a survey questionnaire for people to answer. We looked at both interview and survey to gather the information need to begin the constructing of our film, and to plan properly what its going to be like for example it could have been a paranoid thriller, political thriller or psychological thriller. By discovering our target audience is allows us to fix the charcters in our film in a similar way that our audience for exmaple the age of the characters. This allows the audience to bond with the charcters because by them being the same age they will see that they're living the same life style as them.

Our short thriller scene  contains a cliff hanger at the end of the. As the protagonists are in the garage, the antagonist walks in and closes the door allowing them to have nowhere to escape. As the protagonist approaches with the knife, the scene ends with the title and we don't know what will happen next, which leaves the audience in dispair as they would erge to see and know what happens next, but nothing is revealed.

Two locations were used in out thriller, one was inside of a house, on the streets and garage, we used these locations effectively to produce our sequence of film allowing their to be many different shots and having the change of lighting and colour. The setting will allow audience to be attracted to watch our film as you can see the houses in the background which they will have knowledge that this place is britain where the film is being shot. The locations are also used effectively allowing the tension and suspense to be created and making the audience feel as if they're in the same position as the characters in the film by making them feel dispair.

Many things are revealed in the being of our thriller to allow the audience continue watch. These moments were where you see the some tided up in a chair. This allows the audience feeling to watch on to see the mystery of who is tided up and why.

Evaluation 4 (Who would be the audience for your media product?)

People of the age 18- 30 would be our audience for our media product because it shows a relation with them and the characters that are with in our film. A while back we created a survey on Survey Monkey, we got feedback and saw what people want and expected to get from a thriller and the age of that we should direct our thriller towards.
The survey questionnair reveals that our film  should be aim at 11-20 year olds, this group would watch our film because of the genre being a thriller, young these days love the tension and the suspense that is built that will make them frightened and jump off their seats.

Evaluation 3 (What kind of instution media might want distribute your media?)

There are many film companies and institutions that could distribute our film to be looked by Film 4, Working and Title and Metrodome . Below are the companies i have researched into that distributed films like my own these are Universal Studios and Demension Films.

Universial have produced these thrillers:
The Unborn
Drag Me To Hell
The Strangers

Deminsion Films have produce these thrillers:
The ghost writer
Twilight Saga

In lesson we learned about the Microwave Scheme. This Scheme was set up by the UK Film Council where amature film makers are provided with a fund of #100,000 to produce a film of their own. Along with learning about the Microwave Scheme, we watch a film called 'Shifty', this a film that had been funded by this scheme, the took 18 days to construct, and Metrodome distributed it as it showed potential.

Our film could be shown digitally in the cinema, on Television, the internet which would be youtube etc and DVD. There many ways that a distributing company can advertise my film below are just a few examples:

Official websites
articles
Trailers
internet banners
film festivals
build boards

By using a range of these marketing methods there will be more likeliness that our film will be watched by people. Many of these methods are used by for films that have been produced like our own.

Evaluation 2 (How does your media product represent particular social groups?)

The characters

Yemi Samuels, is a very close friend to Andre, and they both share the same house. He is the same age as Andre, as they have know each other since birth and grew up together. Throughout the scene Yemi is tided up and is unable to release himself , the high angle shot that is used when his face is reveal show us that he is powerless and vulnerable. His sexuality isn’t reveal because again it’s not relevant.

Caleb Obembe plays the antagonist in our thriller, the one who is dressed in full black clothing and hooded. Not much can be said about this character  as he is near enough unknown.

Andre Smith is a smart and intelligent business man, this is re- enforced by the way he is dressed and the way he is speaking on the phone as if he’s speaking to one of his business partners. He is a 25  year old man, slim and tall. He is fast witted as he realises something is wrong as he sees that his door is opened and suspects that something isn’t right as his facial expression reveals. His sexuality isn’t reveal as it isn’t relevant.

For our thriller scene it consists of 3 characters, 2 protagonist and 1 antagonist. All characters in our film are black males because we didnt actually consider and realise this issue as we were constructing our film. The sexuality of the characters wasn't considered when making the scene. The characters were portrayed as being working class people, by doing this it will allow people like themselves become more interested as they are able to associate with these character. Young people are shown in a positive way because of how they are dressed and there posture showing that they are of a good will. The antagonist is our film could be stereotyped as being part of a gang as he is dress in black and hooded up, this isn't what we are trying to portray in our film.

Evaluation 1 (In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media?)

The genre of a thriller follow specific devices so that it is able to build a particular effect on the audience.  Thriller films often be revolved around crime.  A lot of action will be conveyed in order to create a trill for the audience.  In many thriller films the protagonist will portray weakness that the antagonist will have advantage of, this may have the protagonist lead into perlous situations so that it can build the suspense and the action in the film. Thrillers include plots revolved around amnesia  mistaken identity and doppelgangers. Thrillers most of the time enigma in the beginning of the film and eventually begin to complicate them throughout until the climax is reached.

Our piece of a begining to a thriller opening, develops and challenges forms and conventions in many ways for example, psychological thrillers, this is because it incorporates elements from the mystery and drama genre and also to the obvious traits of the thriller genre. For my thriller i took the idea of someone being tided up in a garage from a music video i viewed a while back, which was a grime music video. Below is the music i used the idea from for my thriller, if you would like to see the part i look at fast foward it to 3 minutes 34 seconds because the rest of it is irrelevant.

Throughout my thriller scene suspense and tension is built. As leon Andre is walking home, we see still shots of someones arms tided together, then a view of the persons legs tided together, at this point it builds the audiences suspence because they are keen to see what the person who is tited up looks likes, and they may have the thoughts of this person being dead or not. The tension comes about when the antagonists drops the knife while the atmosphere has become dark and gloomy, the music changes as this scene occurs, which allows the audience feel on edge. We also allowed the antagonist's face not to be seen until the end , which enforces the mystery of the character. The antagonist is suited in full black revealing that he is superior and also getting the sense that his intensions are to do evil.
The images below show what i have explained.

The things of our thriller that are origional to most thrillers is that the mystery of the antagonist isn't reveal until the end as we don't see his face throughout until he comes in, to murder the protagonist's. Although this end scene blacks-out and we do not see what happens to the protagonist, this here is called a cliff hangers, allowing the audience to be left and think what may occur next.

Our new plan for our new thriller

We have produced a new plan for our short thriller scene, as the last one we planned and film didnt seem acceptable for it to be shown to audiences. I and my partner had began doing deeper research to see what actually makes a good thriller so that it will enable us to apply it to our own. We watch different thrillers and deeply analysed each one so that we become mindful of what we need to do to achieve our goal. From our last thriller we produced we saw that we needed to include more action and a range of different carmera shots to show the weakness and the power in individual characters in the scene. Moreover, the things that are occuring in our thiller scene must change to allow it to become highly suitable to the genre we are set to approach.

Our title

The title of our thriller must be appropiately chosen in order to create a good effect on our viewers, and which to allow them to want to see more of. We used live type on the i-mac to produce our title on which is 'Entrenchment'

Editing our thriller

Today we are editing our new thriller scene, we are hoping that we don't see that it is useless as the last one we produce while we began editing. We set ourselves the task to complete all our titles and to edit them into the thriller scene in th approprate places allowing it ro become more appealing to the audience.

Dialogue

As our triller scene is a begining opening to a thriller film we are not looking to include much dialogue. The dialogue that is going to be used is going to be short and snappy to create more suspense and to allow the audience see action so that they would like to watch on.

Editing again

Today again were trying to complete the editing for our thriller piece. To be honest we are kind of finding it difficult to put in the titles and sometimes it can become frustrating because theres a lot of saving involve for each title we make with different named files, so sometimes we may become confused on which one we are needing. All titles must be in the same font and style, the titles that we need to include are, the name of who the film is by, the two main characters, our title, music that we used, edited by, director of photography, costume designer and the director's name.

Applying music to our thriller

Today we were searching hard to find the most suitable, most tension and suspense built music for our thriller scene, and i can say we were successful in doing so and we are entirely pleased with our findings. After a long day of frustration of looking for music on different web sites such as mobygratis.com , freeplaymusic.com, newgrounds.com and unsigned.com we ended up with nothing and it came to a point that it seemed as if we were not going to find our music. We then suddenly thought to go onto YouTube.com, and started typing in random words to do with triller and eventually we captured the right music for our thriller.

filming

Today we took the camera to film a part that wasn't done how we wanted it to be, this was the part where the antogonist is looking from inside the house window from above and is watching the protagonist approach his house door. The reason why this part had to be
re-filmed is because when we uploaded it onto the I-mac we saw that it was too dark and were unable to see the approach to the door properly.
